One way to increase illumination without burdening a
weapon is to use a separate spotlight. The example shown above
is fairly lightweight (17 ounces), not especially expensive
($30) and reasonably powerful (160,000 lumens with a claimed
range of 1200 meters). What the power means in terms of
visibility through trees after dark remains to be determined. An
attractive feature is that the location of the spotlight need
not necessarily be the location of the weapon and of the
shooter. At the opposite end of the usability spectrum the
brightness and distance would be useful for signalling rescuers.
