Weapons - Optics 光学 (continued) |
Objectives | < /tr>
/1/ No work that requires a gunsmith as I lack that skill (and the tools) and do not know anyone local that I can trust |
/2/ Able to quickly swap out gear as well as batteries |
/3/ Not too heavy either overall or locally (so no big changes to the balance of the weapon) |
/4/ The Savage rifle should be operable 24 hours per day |
/5/ Currently, the Ruger does not need infrared and functions as a backup |
/6/ Pistol and shotgun for close-range defense only |
/7/ not too bulky for the current carry bags and transport cases |
/8/ not too expensive as the objectives and technology may change |
/9/ reliable and should not require a spotter |
Tactical considerations A couple of uses for the green-infrared laser on the primary weapon ( .308 rifle): 1. infrared at night 2. the green can temporarily blind an opponent. Infrared lasers are much more dangerous to the human eye because they do NOT trigger a blink reflex. They damage the retina which cannot be repaired. Note that ultraviolet lasers also do not trigger a blink reflex and tend tio damage the cornea - while very undesirable, at least the damage can be repaired. 3. possibly open up shadows or dark areas where an enemy might be hiding 4. use the green laser as a silent warn-off during daylight hours - possibly even at night. Yes, there are some dangers of traceback. But, for example, You being either law enforcement or a bad guy show up at 600 yards. A green laser dot shows up on your vehicle or on you. Observations: 1. you are not dead. yet. 2. It is reasonable to strongly suspect you have been ranged 3. And that you are in a prepared ambush position ( = kill zone) - whoever has the laser has a clear view of you. 4. you do not know where to hide - assuming there is any cover 5. you do not know where to shoot 6. so far, the laser has not been directed at your eyes 7. it is likely that you have been given a firm warning 8. you can infer the person with the laser is either bluffing or is pretty confident that you will not survive an encounter - either now or in the future (should you choose to return, presumably under circumstances more favorable to you). The person with the laser did not shoot you outright, so you probably do not rate as a real danger. However, you should be concerned that your face or your license plate can be identified. Note that there might be local cameras. 9. Certainly poor recon by you. If you have been identified (see #8) you may be obliged to validate your home defenses and your workplace security. Then there are the considerations of any routine travel and destinations (like shopping) as well as protection for any family. 10. If you are highlighted by a laser or flashlight or both at night you are in a slightly different but equally unpromising tactical position. You would likely have been surprised by the sudden light and face the unpleasant task of trying to shoot somewhere near the light without being immediately killed. |
