enforcement personnel sometimes have a special requirement -
they might be wearing ballistic face shields attached to hard
helmets. This pairing is heavy. One way to protect against
attacks by lasers (no, we are not kidding) is to affix a laser
safety strip across the upper part of the face shield. We are
not in love with the idea, but have no better alternative.
The advantages of the protective strip shown below are that it
is inexpensive, light (essentially weightless) and, with the
chin raised slightly, as shown in the leftmost image, permits
normal color sensation. Lowering the chin slightly, as shown in
the rightmost image, should block any incoming laser light. The
disadvantage is the the wearer has to be aware of the incoming
laser and adjust his or her posture. It needs to be mentioned
that many of the safety devices make firing a rifle, especially
one with a scope, somewhat challenging. |
