Hiking Mount Whitney 2023

/J/ Audiences with concerns about poncho and clothing colors
/1/ Forest Rangers and police who would like to locate someone in case of an emergency
/2/ military offensive planners assessing routes such that troops are least likely to be detected
/3/ military defensive planners assessing routes such than an enemy is least likely to be detected
/4/ note that the rangers and police are looking for usually looking for people.
/5/ There might be some utility in searching for a vehicle
/6/ snipers conducting over-watch are a special case, especially if trying to distinguish
camouflaged friendlies from enemies, especially enemy snipers
/7/ Similarly, military need to be aware of troops (presumably walking), vehicles, perhaps even aerial assets like drones.
/8/ Perhaps larger UAVs like Predators are more concerned with avoiding radar but minimizing visual location should also be a concern.
/9/ Stealthy helicopters, Humvees and APCs as well as M1A2 Abrams tanks weighing 65 tons are special cases.
/K/ Colors and Patterns
/1/ solid colors: orange, yellow, pink (to be fair), red, white, gray, green (saturated), forest green, khaki, brown, olive drab, blue, purple and black.
/2/ the applicability of ultraviolet detection is difficult to assess
/3/ not sure what effect, if any, ponchos have on infrared
signatures
/4/ lava and fire at night or under smoke can be tracked by infrared.
/5/ I am not a fan of the modern camouflage multi-colors - digital or otherwise.
