Hiking Mount Whitney 2023

/I/ For a hiker one should prefer the opposite so perhaps a poncho of brilliant yellow or saturated orange.
/1/ A whole lot of folks weighed in with opinions
/2/ Assuming one has no cell phone connectivity or other reliable communications (presumably radio)
/3/ orange would likely be less visible at dusk and dawn. Also if there is smoke and fire.
/4/ Unclear which color would be better in rain or snow or moonlight.
/5/ Orange or yellow gloves?
/6/ is the hiker (or wandering senior or lost child) being searched for by rangers on foot, with
a drone, a plane or even a satellite
/7/ a good idea to strap a whistle to one wrist and to carry a second whistle.
/8/ also a good idea to carry some sort of light - like a strobe flashlight.
/9/ the question of orange or yellow becomes unimportant if the poncho is not being worn
so maybe always cover the pack with the poncho if the poncho is not in use. That way if
the bearer is unconscious, asleep, injured ... there is still something to look for.
/10/ Obviously, if one is off the trail and
mobile getting to someplace reasonably open is probably a priority
