While the West Bank may be
rich in history and sacred places,
it is not overly well-endowed
with hospitals. Even if the West
Bank administration was willing
to accept patients from a
tsunami-ravaged Gaza Strip it is
not clear how thousands of
patients could be transported, let
alone cared for. Given the dismal
state of health care now in the
Gaza Strip, it would be prudent
for Israeli planners to consider
the prospects of epidemics of
cholera, dysentery and typhoid
breaking out, especially as the
tsunami debris is apt to linger
for weeks.
