Apart from their focus as places
where the communities gather
to pray;  buildings of
architectural elegance and places
of historical significance,
churches, mosques and other
sacred spaces can complement
hospitals as communications
hubs and distribution centers.
Note that a negative inference is
possible: if someone fails to
show up for prayers, services,
food distribution or medical care
as expected he or she may be
trapped or injured.

application. Used by first
responders equipped with
handheld computers or cell
phones to communicate
information to military and
political leadership. We are
aware that equipping sacred
spaces or buildings near them
with backup generators,
modern communications
gear,  and structural
reinforcement requires
considerable diplomatic
ingenuity as well as cultural
sensitivity.
