As of October 2017 I have yet to find
any indication what martial art or arts the Taiyang He Yueliang
Mao might be part of. I had some hopes it was one of the 53
weapons of Choy Li Fut, but that does not seem to be the case.
So far, no indication the weapon is from one of the Mantis
styles either. From a teaching/consistency point of view it
seems to me that the hand guards on butterfly wing, horse
blocking knife and this weapon should cause the hands to be a
tai chi bang distance apart. I would feel more comfortable is
the crescents were longer so there was less of a gap between the
hand guards. If anyone knows the name of the part of the handle
the crescents protect I would be grateful. Or, for that matter,
where the crescents came from historically.
