Weapons - Benches
According to some, the
lowly teahouse bench is the co-star in the Jackie Chan movie
Young Master. |
| Due to the general
shortage of teahouses in the United States, such benches are
hard to come by. So I built one out of |
| 2" x 12"
= 2 24"
legs and a 48" seat. The legs have pairs of 10.75" 2" x 4"
bolted to them (bolts parallel to the ground) and |
| the seat is
screwed into the 2x4s and the legs. The quality of the wood was
not very good, so I painted it white instead |
| of my usual
Varathane. The late Grandmaster Wing Lam recorded a set named
Dragon Head Wooden Bench (in the |
| Hung Gar videos
section of wle.com) and Kenny Perez has also recorded a set.
Plum Publications has at least three |
| VCRs of bench
sets: #547 is Shaolin style; #988 is Southern Shaolin and #1586
is Mei Shan style (which includes staff |
| versus bench).
This version of bench is too heavy and slow, but it would take
considerable effort for an attacker to get |
| past it. Plus, my
cinemtographer dislikes the white, so I will likely build a
lighter version. However, the bench can also |
| be used for Iron
Palm training. From left to right, two sets of breaking boards,
thee small bottles of Dit Da Jow and |
| canvas bags of
mung beans, gravel and steel shot. |
