| I am not convinced
yet that the thumb-like projection or the v-shape that it
creates is all that effective at |
| snaring an opponent's sword and
snapping the blade. The fighter with this saber would have to be
very quick to |
| trap a sword blade and also very strong. To
be sure, the trapping area is along the very strong spine of
this weapon. |
| One conjecture is
that on a lunge it serves to keep the blade from penetrating too
far and getting entangled the |
| enemy’s ribs and
other obstacles. It turns out that not all blades are made with
this feature. Given the weight |
| challenges and
balance problems I suspected that the Zhan Ma Dao really needed
to have a long handle in the |
| manner of a Kwan
Dao or Pu Dao. |
