Bay Point California 12/13/2016 Single Whip posture with weapons
And finally sabers and swords. The high block with one saber should work well - your heavy blade and one arm against
his. Of course, you are better off pre-empting his attack before his weapon starts downward, but that is an other scenario. Likewise, on the low block your arm and saber should prevail at least enough to get his weapon safely outside you. The problem comes with your counterattack. It is very difficult (and dangerous and slow) to rotate the right hand saber's cutting edge toward the opponent. In contrast, much care has to be taken when using a sword to do a high block. More in the spirit and strategy of the sword would be to parry the high attack outward. That leaves your blade inside and within range of his head, neck and shoulder. If the attacker's high blow is pushed offline enough for a safe counter the attacker is in serious danger. In the meantime, when the right hand sword parries the low attack the sword is ready to counter - it is headed across the thigh (femoral artery, among other juicy targets) and then toward the groin and stomach. The real danger is the sword soars upward through the chin into the brain. Yes, the right hand saber could follow a similar track but it will take appreciably longer to get into the killing zone. Maybe the enemy will have barely enough time to retreat or he can manage to follow the right hand saber with whatever weapon he attacked with. Not an enviable tactical situation for the former attacker.
