The primary link to Singapore
from the Malay Peninsula is the
Singapore-Johore Causeway. It is
used by 60,000 vehicles on an
average day, and also serves as a
connection for water pipelines,
pedestrians and railroads. The
causeway has not enhanced the
harmony between Singapore
and Malaysia: proposals ranging
from tearing it down to building
more connections have been put
forward. We are unable to
determine if the present
structure or future designs will
withstand a major earthquake
and tsunami.

Were the causeway to fall the admiral's options for access to northern shore
areas are reduced. It would likely be necessary to provide a marine shuttle.
