While the Turkish straits have
virtually no tides, they do have
wicked currents. The tides around
Singapore usually vary by about 3
meters as shown. This is mild
compared to the famed Bay of
Fundy where the  water levels
routinely change by 17 meters due
to tidal resonance. About 120
billion tons of water flow into and
out of the Bay of Fundy twice
daily. This reverses the flow of
rivers like the Saint John, and
gives some indication of the effects
of a tsunami.  More dynamic tides
near Singapore would increase
co-seismic effects: high tides push
more tsunami debris and water
further  inland.
