/11/ A boulder the size of my head went whizzing across the trail about 15 feet ahead of me.
/12/ I heard voices so I hiked to the right and upward. I encountered two very nice fellows who were adjusting their gear to try the Mountaineer's Route. They said if I wanted to try the 99 Switchbacks route I would have to backtrack to the sign and turn left which meant crossing the stream. Note that to the right (image above) there was waterfall taller than I am. And about 10 or 12 meters of water to cross with a nasty drop downstream to the left. The situation looked worse as far as I could see upstream and downstream.
/13/ I had no rope with me - I am skeptical it would have been any help.
