Location sensors status: August 25, 2016 Questions
1. Recommended sensor hardware and software (operating system):
Cost of the sensors now and will they be available in two years?
What choices of operating systems running the sensors do we have?
Are sensors capable of hosting an application? What is the procedure to
update software on a sensor? Is there read-only memory that must be
updated?
2. Any way to avoid sensors on the head? We would like to verify head
orientation so perhaps inferences from muscles in the neck?
3. Can we avoid gloves and still get accurate hand positions?
4. Are one or two sensors on the back necessary to determine
orientation of the abdomen?
5. Is having a sensor send its position every tenth of a second practical?
6. Do things like occluding human bodies dressed with sensors and
perhaps handling spinning weapons interfere with transmission by
the location sensors? Can sensors on a weapon survive a lau gar (3 meters
long somewhat flexible waxwood pole) striking the ground?
7. When collecting data from 40 to 50 sensors is it one hub per person?
8. Are six sensors per weapon sufficient?
9. How many hours can sensors run for between charges? MTF?
10. How do we know a hub, a sensor or a lot of sensors on the same
garment have stopped working? If we detect at the start of a class that one
or more sensors are not functioning how long does it take to replace a
sensor? Are we better off having multiple spare garments ready to go?
11. Can a garment with embedded sensors be laundered? Dried in a
dryer? If not, how are smart garments cleaned?
