After taking the White knight and watching the White rook capture the last remaining Black bishop
the Black pawn that was briefly a b pawn transforms back into a c pawn by capturing the White
pawn at c2. The c1 queening square is currently guarded twice so promotion is only a distant
threat. White can also push pawns: he checks with his queen on move 30 and then sacrifices his f
pawn on move 31. With checkmate threatened at g7 GM Rodríguez Vila has no choice but to take
the pawn. This costs Black a piece: two knights for the White bishop. Material is more or less equal,
but Black has the move. On move 33 he obliges White to exchange the central, attacking rook.
