When we query the USGS recent events
database (PDE) we obtain two events of
interest: a Richter 5.9 9/3/1978 at 48.29 and
9.01 as well as a 5.4 on 4/13/1992 at 51.15 and
5.80. On the USGS historical database
(NOAA) we see 48.30 and 8.90 but Richter
5.3 for 1978. We also see 51.20 and 5.80 but
Richter 5.9 for 1992. Hard to know what is
going on.
The clock tower in what is today (since 1975) called Ząbkowice Śląskie, Poland -
damaged in 1590. The town has had a colorful history: epidemiologists find it
interesting because in the early 17th century the plague killed about one third of
the population. Most of the town burnt to the ground in 1858. Over the years it
has been captured by Mongols, Bohemians, Prussians and others. Some literary
researchers cite events of 1606 as inspiration for the English novelist Mary
Shelley.
