Normally, we are 
only interested in 
Richter 7.0 or 
greater 
earthquakes 
beyond the last 40 
years. We were 
frankly a little 
disappointed that 
there was only 
one older 
earthquake in 
Germany.
      
      
            We note in passing that the orange dot in northeastern Austria is the famed 
Neulengbach event of  9/15/1590. There is considerable uncertainly about its 
strength. Estimates range from Richter 5.5 to 6.6. There were foreshocks that 
started June 29 and aftershocks that ended November 12. Details of deaths, 
injuries and damage, especially in Vienna, are scarce, although it is clear that the 
southern portions of the Cathedral of St. Stephen were damaged. On the next
