For Investors - What will be taught and why (continued) A
Master's degree requires competency (again judged by professional
judges using international standards) in eight sets. The unarmed
routines are known as silk reeling, Old Frame 2 (cannon fist), Xin
Jia 2 and Xiao Jia (small frame) 108 movements. The weapons routines include double sabers, double swords, kwan
dao (similar to a European falchion) and long staff (3 meters). We
contemplate adding a fork (cha) set. We have added five Gigong
routines including for for zhang (48" stick) as well as three Tai Chi
tools: bang, bent bang and long bang (also knows as chidu). All
the classes make heavy use of video so that the student is immersed in
images of the Grandmaster doing the set. Use of reference videos while
practicing at home is encouraged. Lesson plans typically define very
detailed instructions of what is moving where and why. An intended consequence of this is instructors need not be tai chi chuan
masters or grandmasters.
