Double Batons set
We will start learning this weapons set the first day because it is a declaration that the teacher
TRUSTS the students to be responsible for the space they move through so that they do not injure
|
themselves or other students. Or lamps, mirrors, windows or anything else. Nevertheless, we will |
start with the padded sticks. For the record, the teacher does NOT like these. But they are a good,
safe starting point. Of the four photos below once you are reasonably dextrous with the padded sticks
you can choose (1) the polished oak - very smooth and light, but very hard and somewhat willful in
the early going (2) common rattan - a rougher and more irregular feel (3) red and black rattan - in
between the common rattan and the oak in weight and smoothness - against some silk colors like
white the red and black contrasts nicely. Against black silks there is a tendency to disappear. (4) The
steel maces are too heavy and too clumsy and too dangerous to use in class. You can certainly make
your own - check with a teacher about not only length and diameter, but also surface preparation.
