| Silk Reeling
Exercises |
| The third of the
five beginning silk reeling exercises is done with a single hand
and arm to the right. |
| As in the first
exercise start in the standard Wuji standing posture. Put your
left hand with the |
| elbow bent,
fingers parallel to the ground and facing forward (thumb is
separated) on the left hip. |
| Shift most of
your weight to the left leg and step about one foot to the right
with your right foot. |
| Extend your right
hand outward so it is at shoulder level and so the elbow is
nearly straight. Breathe |
| out slowly
as you re-balance your weight evenly. |
| Softly bend the
right wrist about 90 degrees inward to the fingers are parallel
to the shoulder line |
| and pointed
toward the centerline. You want to move the right hand slowly
straight down to waist |
| level inhaling as
you go. Now the wrist and forearm rotate 90 degrees so the palm
faces inward. |
| Move the hand
along the waist past the centerline to the left hip. Now lift
the hand up (palm still |
| facing in; elbow
relaxed) toward the left shoulder. Rotate the wrist and forearm
180 degrees so the |
| palm faces out.
Now move the right hand to the right parallel to the shoulder
line exhaling gently as |
| you go. When you
reach the furthest right you are comfortable with tuck the right
elbow gently |
| toward the body
and rotate the hand so the fingers point upward. That's one
cycle. |
