human culture works
like this: lots of adults
contribute during the
first 20 years of a child's
life in hopes that child
will be able to contribute
for 40 years. Sometimes
a society gets very lucky
and produces a Newton
or a Mozart, but the
more common payback
for a culture would be
saints, Spitfire pilots,
doctors and teachers
who contribute to many
lives.
