When Britain faced the Luftwaffe in 1940 less than 600 pilots WORLDWIDE responded (595 including all of 7 Americans) - this was about a 25% increase for the Royal Air Force. We'd like to think that were some mega-disaster to strike Seattle or Portland or Honolulu or Anchorage or Mexicali, California could respond.
