Re: Earthquakes
I realize a major seismic event originating near the Solomon Islands would be
likely to spawn tsunamis that would be very unwelcome in northeastern
Australia, but the activity that caught my eye was the 6.0 near Easter Island.
Technically part of Chile, but a wave starting from west of Easter Island would
have a clear shot at the already battered  eastern coast of New Zealand.
Did you ever do any work on the Strait of Messina? I appreciate PM Berlusconi
wants to create jobs but 6 billion euros to build a bridge there seems to be an
inferior way to effectively spend money and create jobs. Given the seismic
activity and the basketful of nearby volcanoes as well as the unique marine
ecology and the limited number of people (all of Sicily has 5 million and
change) I would think Italy could spend its money better elsewhere.
