After 9/11 and the 2004 Madrid bombings the Coldstream Guards played the
anthems of the United States and Spain, respectively. As noted elsewhere (in the
Flagging Enthusiasm pages), we would have liked it had the Guards never been
required to play an anthem to honor a tragedy again. As there now has been yet
another senseless act of random killing, we would like it even more if the elite
military units of two hundred and thirty nations played the Russian national
anthem.
