A: No and no. But a half million people live there, and about 200,000 are trying to
work there. We tried to tell the city of Vallejo and the County back in the 90s that
Mare Island closing down would be devastating. They thanked us and told us not to
worry - there was a plan. Unemployment is just about one of our least favorite
measures. Officially, it is now over 13% in Solano County and has tripled in three
years. We do have a sentimental obsession with battleships - it is hard to explain.
