It does not matter a great deal to Venezuela which route Colombia builds. It may well be of considerable utility to Colombia to consult with Ecuador and Peru. But ultimately Venezuela will have to build a link from Maicao to a new supurb near Maracaibo. Then Venezuela faces its first engineering choice - a tunnel under Lake Maracaibo, a bridge across the lake, or a southern loop that goes around the bottom of the lake.
