Israel shares with Egypt the
unfortunate distinction of being
vulnerable to a seismic event in
the Red Sea as well as event in
the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
For Israel there is currently a
marked asymmetry - losing the
port of Eilat due to a Red Sea /
Suez Canal tsunami and
earthquake damage is far less
painful than coping with
damage to the ports of Ashdod,
Ashkelon and especially Haifa
after an Eastern Mediterranean
catastrophe.
