At the Intel Developers' Forum in Shenzhen China in early 2016
the internationally acclaimed wushu performer Hua |
|
Zhihao (more commonly known nowadays as Patti Li around the San
Francisco Bay Area) was wired with location |
|
sensors on her wrists and ankles. She then did a routine that
progressed from Yang style Tai Chi (no sensors) to Chen style |
|
to Bagua (when she walks the circle) to some wushu sword. A link
to a video of the performance is immediately below. |

We want to construct a wearable network of probably 30 position
sensors and record masters and grandmasters. We then |
|
record students with similar meshes of sensors on. With some
software we can automate and accelerate grading. |
|
Recent results from India indicate that a combination of four
biological sensors for heartbeat, blood pressure, temperature |
|
and respiration give early warnings of seizures in some types of
epilepsy. Although epilepsy and similar conditions are very |
|
complicated and not well understood, any ability to forewarn
about seizures would be terrific for teachers and students. |

We are expecting to experiment with the use of smart glasses so
remote students (learning at home and rarely in a class) |
|
see a video of themselves on one lens and a video of a
grandmaster on another lens. This might reduce the need for
large, |
|
expensive and fragile mirrors. We will need to determine if
students will tolerate the glasses. |
