As it turns out, even though
state level statistics are
likely of little real meaning,
the correlation between per
capita Gross State Product
and math SAT scores is
equally dismal (-.2873). If it
is not parents' money and
parents' hard work (or at
least alleged productivity)
what is influencing SAT
scores? It does not help to
lag money - the correlation
of spending in 2008, 2007,
2006 ... against 2009 scores
are no better. A trickier
question is are the SATs
actually measuring anything
relevant?

attendance): math SAT -.3741; reading SAT -.1757; writing SAT -.3185.
