Currently, the only religious adherents and clergy data we have for
nations involved in the two Ebola outbreaks would be for Roman
Catholics. During an epidemic group worship may present a danger,
yet it is most necessary. Perhaps some sort of television or internet
accommodations can be considered. Likewise, visiting the sick and
tending to the dead is usually one of the highest duties required of
clergy. It is likely that one's congregation will be the only source
of spiritual consolation for widows and orphans. Without government
support, the congregation may also be the only financial support.
Note that Roman Catholics count membership from Baptism. Many other
religions only count adults. We would also be interested in tallies by
religion for people infected, in clinics, quarantined at home, and
deceased. Send comments to peterfzoll@yahoo.com or respond on the Silver Wolf Wushu blog.
